Every PMI certification at a glance
The exams we cover for PMI, with the figures each certification publishes. Levels are guidance rather than gates — PMI sets no prerequisites, so you can book any of these directly.
| Certification | Level | Exam | Pass mark | Fee | Valid for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PMP — PMP | Professional | 180 Qs · 240 min | Pass / fail | — | 3 years (60 PDUs) |
Compare these with every other exam we cover, including recent and upcoming exam changes.
Where to start with PMI
PMI publishes no foundational exam in the set we cover, so Project Management Professional (PMP) is the entry point. It assumes hands-on experience rather than theory, so give yourself real time with the platform before booking.
Pair it with hands-on work rather than a second certification: what you have actually built carries an interview further than a second credential does.
How PMI certifications are renewed
Renewal is the cost people forget, and it varies more between vendors than the exam fees do.
PMI certifications such as the PMP run on a three-year cycle: you keep yours by earning 60 professional development units (PDUs) in each cycle and paying the renewal fee, rather than by retaking the exam.
PMI sets one exam fee for its members and a higher one for non-members. Check PMI’s certification page for both current prices before you apply. See Project Management Institute, Inc.’s own certification page for the current terms.
