Free practice questions for Microsoft exams
The best free practice questions for Microsoft certification exams are Microsoft’s own Practice Assessments on Microsoft Learn. They cost nothing, you can retake them as often as you like, and they exist for most fundamentals and role-based exams, including AZ-900, AZ-104 and DP-700. They are too few to prepare with on their own, and brand-new exams such as SC-500 can wait several weeks for one. So most candidates add a larger free bank with per-option explanations and timed mocks, and use the official assessment as the final check on wording and difficulty.
Microsoft’s official Practice Assessments
Each Practice Assessment is a set of questions written to the exam’s skills outline, linked from the exam’s page on Microsoft Learn. Answers come with an explanation and links to the relevant Microsoft documentation, and you can retake the assessment as often as you like, so it suits both an early baseline and a final check.
Two limits matter. The pool is small, so a few retakes and you will recognise the questions. And new exams do not get one straight away: Microsoft says assessments usually arrive within about eight weeks of an exam leaving beta. As of October 2026 the SC-500 page said its assessment was not yet available, so check the exam page before you plan around it.
The exam sandbox
Microsoft also offers an exam sandbox, a free demo of the exam interface with sample items in each question type the real exam can use. It has no real exam content. Its value is that you meet the case-study layout, drag-and-drop items and the review screen before exam day, rather than learning them under the clock.
Microsoft Learn paths and study guides
Every exam has a free study guide on Microsoft Learn listing the skills measured, with the percentage range for each functional group and a change log of recent updates. Read the change log before you trust any practice bank, including ours. If a skill was added last month, check that the bank covers it.
The learning paths linked from each exam page are free and accurate. They often teach the product more broadly than the exam tests, so use the skills outline to decide how deep to go.
Free third-party practice banks
A larger bank fills the gap between Microsoft’s small official set and the exam. When choosing one, check that it names the current exam code and skills outline, explains every option rather than just the correct one, and offers timed full-length mocks. Avoid any site advertising “real” or “actual” exam questions. Those are brain dumps, and using one breaks the Microsoft exam agreement.
SaveMyCert has free practice for Microsoft exams including AZ-900, AZ-104, DP-700, AI-901 and SC-500. Every question explains why each option is right or wrong, worked sample questions are published on each exam’s practice page, and practice can be drilled one exam domain at a time. You can start without an account, within a daily allowance that a free account lifts. Mock exams follow the exam’s time limit and are scored on Microsoft’s 1,000-point scale.
How to combine them
A simple order that uses each source for what it does best:
- Take the official Practice Assessment once, cold, as a baseline.
- Study domain by domain with the study guide’s skills list open, practising each domain as you finish it.
- Rebuild sessions from your incorrect answers until each domain is steady.
- Try the exam sandbox once so the interface holds no surprises.
- Sit timed full-length mocks on questions you have not seen.
- Retake the official Practice Assessment as a final check on Microsoft’s wording.
Original practice questions, timed mock exams and revision notes. No card, nothing to pay.
