What's in a PMI-ACP mock paper

Each paper draws its questions per domain in the same proportions PMI publishes for the real PMI-ACP — so a mock that goes badly in one domain is telling you something a randomly-drawn quiz couldn't.

What a PMI-ACP paper is shaped like

Which way this particular paper applies pressure.

The clock

At roughly 1.5 minutes a question, the pacing is comfortable but not generous. You can afford to think on a hard question, and you cannot afford to do it twice. Most candidates finish with time for a second pass if they keep the first pass moving.

The weighting

Mindset is the largest domain at 28%, but with 4 domains in play no single one decides the result. A mock score here is usually a fair reflection of overall coverage rather than a verdict on one topic.

The standard

The pass mark is 700 on the 100–1000 scale. Because scaling adjusts for the difficulty of the particular set you were served, there is no fixed number of questions that guarantees it — which is exactly why a single mock result means less than a consistent one.

What trips people up on a PMI-ACP mock

The PMI-ACP is not a Scrum exam. The outline expects familiarity with several frameworks — Scrum, Kanban, SAFe and Lean among them — so a question set on a Kanban team, a scaled programme or a hybrid project expects an answer from agile values and principles, not from one framework’s rulebook. Candidates who learned agile from a single method tend to pick the option that follows that method’s ceremony to the letter, and lose the mark to the option that serves the underlying principle.

Most questions ask what the agile practitioner should do next, and the traps are actions that are well meant but take the decision away from the team: fixing the problem yourself, assigning work, ruling on a conflict, or escalating before the team has tried. The opposite trap also exists — staying passive about an impediment the team cannot remove on its own. The best answer usually facilitates, coaches or makes something visible, and acts directly only on what sits outside the team’s reach.

Mindset and Delivery are the two heaviest domains. Mindset is broader than it looks: alongside values and psychological safety it covers complexity models such as Cynefin and the Stacey matrix, and reading the output of agile suitability tools. People with years of hands-on Scrum often skim this material and find it is where their mock score drops.

Expect to read charts and do small calculations: burndown and burnup trends, cumulative flow diagrams, velocity, cycle and lead time, WIP limits and Little’s Law. On the real exam some of these arrive as exhibits or drag-and-drop items; here they are multiple choice, so practise interpreting the chart rather than recognising the answer.

The paper is long and the scheduled break comes halfway through. Sit full-length mocks in one go, take the break at the same point, and check whether your accuracy in the second half holds up.
