Question 1Digital Transformation with Google Cloud

A retailer's board keeps hearing that the company should "move to the cloud." Which description of cloud computing is accurate?

Choose one.

  • a
On-demand access over a network to shared computing resources, paid for as they are used Correct

This is the core definition: the provider runs pooled resources, customers draw on them on demand over the network and pay for consumption.

  • b
A second company-owned data center that holds backup copies of the retailer's systems

A company-owned backup site is still the retailer's own infrastructure; nothing is drawn on demand from a provider.

  • c
A dedicated set of servers rented from a supplier under a fixed multi-year hardware lease

A fixed lease of dedicated servers is traditional hosting: capacity and cost are set in advance rather than drawn on demand.

  • d
Software installed on each employee laptop that copies files to a server over the internet

A sync client is one application that uses a network; it does not describe how computing resources are provided and paid for.

The concept

Cloud computing is the on-demand delivery of computing resources, such as servers, storage and software, over a network from a provider's shared pool, billed by use.

Why that’s the answer

The defining features are on-demand self-service, network access, shared provider-run resources and pay-for-what-you-use billing. A backup site the company owns, a fixed hardware lease and a laptop sync tool each miss at least one of these: either the company still owns and runs the capacity, or the capacity and price are fixed in advance.

How to reason it out
  1. Recall the defining traits of cloud: on demand, over a network, shared provider resources, pay as you go.
  2. Check who owns and runs the resources in each option.
  3. Check whether capacity and cost follow use or are fixed up front.
  4. Pick the option that has every trait.

Exam tip: Cloud = provider-run, shared resources you reach over a network, take on demand and pay for as you use them.

Question 2Exploring Data Transformation with Google Cloud

A retail chain's leaders review sales reports compiled at the end of each month. They want to adjust staffing and promotions while customer demand is still changing. What value of data would help them most?

Choose one.

  • a
Historical archives that keep past reports on customer demand for audits

Archived reports support audits and long-term comparison, but they describe last month's demand, which is exactly the delay the leaders want to remove.

  • b
Third-party datasets that describe changing consumer spending in general

Broad market data can add context, but it does not show what is happening in this chain's own stores right now.

  • c
Governance rules that define who may view the chain's sales figures

Governance controls access and quality. It is important, but it does not by itself give leaders faster insight into demand.

  • d
Real-time insights that show customer demand as it changes during the day Correct

Data analysed as it arrives lets leaders see demand while it is still shifting, so they can change staffing and promotions in time rather than a month later.

The concept

One core value of data is real-time business insight: acting on what is happening now instead of on a report that arrives after the moment has passed.

Why that’s the answer

The deciding requirement is acting 'while customer demand is still changing'. That needs insight produced as data arrives. Archives and monthly reports are tempting because the chain already has them, but they are backward-looking. Third-party trend data is general rather than specific to the chain, and governance rules protect data without speeding up insight.

How to reason it out
  1. Find the business need: act during the day, not after the month ends.
  2. Ask which kind of insight closes that delay.
  3. Recognise that real-time data shows events as they happen.
  4. Reject options that are historical, external or about control rather than speed.

Exam tip: When the business must react while events unfold, the value of data is real-time insight.

Question 3Innovating with Google Cloud Artificial Intelligence

A manager hears colleagues use 'machine learning' and 'artificial intelligence' as if they mean the same thing. How does machine learning relate to artificial intelligence?

Choose one.

  • a
It is a wider field than AI that also includes robotics and rule-based expert systems

The relationship runs the other way. AI is the wider field; robotics and expert systems are other approaches within or beside it, and machine learning sits inside AI.

  • b
It is a part of generative AI that is limited to producing new text, images and code

Generative AI is itself a kind of machine learning, not the other way round. Many ML models predict or classify and never generate content.

  • c
It is a part of AI in which systems learn patterns from data rather than set rules Correct

Machine learning is a subset of AI: rather than being programmed with explicit instructions, a model learns patterns from example data and applies them to new data.

  • d
It is a separate field from AI that studies past data to produce business reports

Producing reports from past data is business intelligence. Machine learning is part of AI and builds models that make predictions on new data.

The concept

Artificial intelligence is the broad field of systems that perform tasks needing human-like intelligence; machine learning is the subset of AI where systems learn from data.

Why that’s the answer

Machine learning sits inside AI. Its defining trait is learning patterns from data rather than following instructions written by a programmer. The tempting distractors reverse the nesting (ML wider than AI, or ML inside generative AI) or confuse ML with reporting, which is business intelligence.

How to reason it out
  1. Recall the nesting: AI contains ML, and ML contains generative AI.
  2. Identify ML's defining trait: it learns from data.
  3. Reject options that reverse the nesting.
  4. Reject the option that describes reporting rather than learning.

Exam tip: AI is the field, ML is how many AI systems learn from data, and gen AI is a kind of ML that creates content.

Question 4Modernize Infrastructure and Applications with Google Cloud

A migration lead keeps saying the company will move its 'workloads' to Google Cloud in waves. What does a workload mean in this context?

Choose one.

  • a
The total amount of computing power the company buys from its provider each month

That is capacity or consumption, which is measured and billed. A workload is the application being moved, not how much compute is purchased.

  • b
The full list of physical servers in the data center, whatever software they run

A server inventory is an input to discovery, but a workload is defined by the application and what it does, not by the hardware it happens to sit on.

  • c
An application or service, with the compute and data it needs, moved as a unit Correct

A workload is a specific application or service together with the resources it uses. Migrations are planned workload by workload, which is why teams group them into waves.

  • d
The project plan that sets the order and target dates of each migration wave

The plan sequences workloads into waves; it is not the workload itself. Each wave contains one or more workloads.

The concept

A workload is an application or service, plus the compute, storage and data it depends on, treated as one unit in a migration.

Why that’s the answer

Migration programs are organized around workloads: each application and its supporting resources is assessed, given a migration approach and scheduled into a wave. Capacity bought, a server list and the wave plan are all related, but none of them is the workload.

How to reason it out
  1. Ask what is actually being moved in each migration wave.
  2. Recognize that it is an application or service together with its resources.
  3. Separate that from billing capacity, hardware lists and plans.

Exam tip: A workload is the application plus what it needs to run; migrations move workloads, not servers.

Question 5Trust and Security with Google Cloud

A hospital finds its patient files encrypted overnight, with a note demanding payment before the key to restore them is released. Which threat has hit the hospital?

Choose one.

  • a
    Cryptomining

Cryptomining malware steals computing power to mine cryptocurrency. It runs up costs but does not lock files or demand a ransom.

  • b
    Phishing

Phishing tricks people into revealing credentials or opening malicious content. It may be how ransomware gets in, but the attack described is the encryption and ransom demand.

  • c
    Ransomware Correct

Ransomware encrypts or locks an organization's data and demands payment for the key, which is exactly what the note describes.

  • d
    A computer virus

A virus is malware that spreads by attaching itself to other files. The defining features here, encrypted data and a payment demand, point to ransomware.

The concept

Ransomware is malware that encrypts or locks data and demands payment to restore access; its business impact is downtime, lost data and pressure to pay.

Why that’s the answer

Encrypting the victim's files and demanding money for the key is the signature of ransomware. Phishing is often the delivery route, and a virus is a broad malware type, but neither names the attack the hospital is experiencing. Cryptomining abuses compute rather than holding data hostage.

How to reason it out
  1. Spot the two clues: files encrypted, and payment demanded for the key.
  2. Recall that holding data hostage for payment defines ransomware.
  3. Separate the delivery method (phishing) from the attack itself.
  4. Choose ransomware.

Exam tip: Data locked and a ransom demanded = ransomware.

How CDL questions are worded

Most CDL questions are not asking whether you can recall a definition. They describe a situation and ask which option satisfies it — so the skill being tested is reading the requirement precisely and eliminating options that fail it.

Single-response vs multiple-response

A single-response question has exactly one right answer. A multiple-response question tells you how many to pick ("Choose TWO") and there is no partial credit — getting one of the two right scores nothing. Read that instruction before you read the options.

Read the last line first

The final sentence is the actual question; everything before it is scenario. Read it first, then read the scenario knowing what you are looking for. It stops you from building an answer in your head that the question never asked for.

Hunt for the qualifier

Most scenarios turn on one word — MOST cost-effective, LEAST operational overhead, with the LEAST latency, without changing application code. Two options are frequently both technically correct, and the qualifier is the only thing separating them.

Eliminate, then choose

Distractors are almost always real Google Cloud services doing a real job — just not this job. Rule out the ones that break a stated constraint before you compare what's left. On a question you truly don't know, eliminating two options turns a guess into a coin flip.
