What a AB-900 paper is shaped like

Which way this particular paper applies pressure.

The clock

At roughly 1 minute a question, this is one of the faster papers you can sit. There is no time to deliberate: you read, decide, and move. Candidates who fail this format usually knew the material and ran out of clock, so treat pacing as a skill to rehearse in its own right rather than something that will sort itself out on the day.

The weighting

The weighting is top-heavy: Understand data protection and governance tasks for Microsoft 365 and Copilot alone accounts for 38% of the paper. That concentration cuts both ways on a mock — a bad run in that one domain will sink the whole score, and a good one can flatter you into thinking the rest is covered. Read the per-domain breakdown before you read the total.

The standard

The pass mark is 700 on the 100–1000 scale. Because scaling adjusts for the difficulty of the particular set you were served, there is no fixed number of questions that guarantees it — which is exactly why a single mock result means less than a consistent one.

What trips people up on an AB-900 mock

AB-900 is an administration exam, and most misses come from picking a real Microsoft 365 feature that belongs to a different job. Data Loss Prevention, sensitivity labels and retention all "protect data"; Insider Risk Management and Communication Compliance both watch people; Conditional Access, multifactor authentication and Privileged Identity Management all control sign-in. When you review a miss, name what the option you chose is actually for — that habit closes most of the gap.

Data protection and governance is the heaviest domain, and it is where Copilot changes the picture. Copilot only sees what the signed-in user can already open, so oversharing in SharePoint becomes a Copilot problem. Expect questions that link a permission or labelling decision to what Copilot will or will not surface, and practise reasoning from permissions first.

Know which admin center does what. The Microsoft 365 admin center, the Exchange, SharePoint and Teams admin centers, Microsoft Entra, Microsoft Purview and the Power Platform admin center each own different settings, and several questions are really asking where you would go to do something. A quick map of the centers and their main jobs is worth more than another read through feature lists.

Copilot and agent administration changes faster than any other part of the outline: licensing and pay-as-you-go billing, which features can be switched off, Researcher and Analyst, and how agents are approved, shared and monitored. Revise this domain from the current Microsoft Learn documentation rather than from memory, and check the date on anything you read elsewhere.

The clock is short — 45 minutes — and Microsoft can include interactive items as well as multiple choice. Rehearse the pace on a full mock so you are not still reading options when the last few questions arrive.
