Every attempt draws questions you haven't met yet first · Pro.
A full-length paper drawn to the same domain weights, from the questions we rate hardest — the ones that combine two facts or weigh workable options against each other.
One exam domain at the real exam's pace — for the domain your last mock went worst in.
What's in a CS0-004 mock paper
Each paper draws its questions per domain in the same proportions CompTIA publishes for the real CS0-004 — so a mock that goes badly in one domain is telling you something a randomly-drawn quiz couldn't.
| Domain | Official weight | Questions drawn | Share of paper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Security Operations | 34% | 29 | 34% |
| Vulnerability Management | 26% | 22 | 26% |
| Incident Response and Management | 24% | 20 | 24% |
| Reporting and Communication | 16% | 14 | 16% |
| Total | 100% | 85 | 100% |
What a CS0-004 paper is shaped like
Which way this particular paper applies pressure.
The clock
At roughly 1.9 minutes a question, the pacing is comfortable but not generous. You can afford to think on a hard question, and you cannot afford to do it twice. Most candidates finish with time for a second pass if they keep the first pass moving.
The weighting
Security Operations is the largest domain at 34%, but with 4 domains in play no single one decides the result. A mock score here is usually a fair reflection of overall coverage rather than a verdict on one topic.
The standard
The pass mark of 750 on the 100–900 scale is at the stricter end. Treat a mock result that lands just over the line as a fail in disguise — the margin you want before booking is wider here than on a 100–900 exam that passes lower.

What trips people up on a CySA+ mock
CompTIA publishes only a maximum question count, so our papers run at that maximum against the full time limit. That makes the pace slightly harder than a real sitting with fewer items, which is the safer side to practise on. The time limit is generous per question, so use it: marks are more often lost by deciding too quickly on evidence that was only skimmed.
Most items put evidence in front of you — a log excerpt, a SIEM table, scanner output, a list of open ports — and ask what it means. The trap is pattern-matching on one familiar word (a process name, a port number, a country) instead of reading every line. Before you look at the options, say what the evidence shows: which entry is out of place, and why. Then choose the option that names it.
Qualifiers decide many questions. "Most likely", "best" and "next" mean several options are true but only one fits the scenario, and "next" questions follow the incident response order strictly: an analyst who has just confirmed an infection contains it before eradicating anything. If your misses cluster on "next" items, revise the process order rather than the tools.
Vulnerability questions reward judgement, not maximum severity. The highest score is not automatically the first fix — exploitation in the wild, asset value, exposure and whether a patch exists all move the order, and an unpatchable system calls for compensating controls rather than removal. When an option sounds drastic (shut it down, block everything), check whether the scenario actually allows it.
Version 4 adds AI in security operations and keeps a whole domain on reporting and communication. Both are easy to under-revise because they feel like common sense, and both produce close distractors: an AI output to verify before acting on it, a metric or audience to match to the right report. Use the per-domain breakdown to find which domain trails, and drill it before the next full paper.
