Every attempt draws questions you haven't met yet first · Pro.
A full-length paper drawn to the same domain weights, from the questions we rate hardest — the ones that combine two facts or weigh workable options against each other.
One exam domain at the real exam's pace — for the domain your last mock went worst in.
What's in a AI-200 mock paper
Each paper draws its questions per domain in the same proportions Microsoft Azure publishes for the real AI-200 — so a mock that goes badly in one domain is telling you something a randomly-drawn quiz couldn't.
| Domain | Official weight | Questions drawn | Share of paper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Develop containerized solutions on Azure | 24% | 12 | 24% |
| Develop AI solutions by using Azure data management services | 28% | 14 | 28% |
| Connect to and consume Azure services | 24% | 12 | 24% |
| Secure, monitor, and troubleshoot Azure solutions | 24% | 12 | 24% |
| Total | 100% | 50 | 100% |
What a AI-200 paper is shaped like
Which way this particular paper applies pressure.
The clock
At roughly 2.4 minutes a question, the clock is not the enemy here — the scenarios are. Questions on this paper tend to be longer and more layered, and the time is given to you because you need to read carefully. The failure mode is the opposite of a fast paper: drifting, re-reading, and second-guessing answers you had right the first time.
The weighting
Develop AI solutions by using Azure data management services is the largest domain at 28%, but with 4 domains in play no single one decides the result. A mock score here is usually a fair reflection of overall coverage rather than a verdict on one topic.
The standard
The pass mark is 700 on the 1–1000 scale. Because scaling adjusts for the difficulty of the particular set you were served, there is no fixed number of questions that guarantees it — which is exactly why a single mock result means less than a consistent one.

What trips people up on an AI-200 mock
AI-200 is a back-end developer exam, not an AI exam. Models barely appear; the questions are about the services an AI app runs on — containers, databases with vector search, a cache, messaging, Functions and the plumbing that keeps them secure and observable. Candidates who revise prompts and model choices meet a mock that is mostly about hosting, data and integration.
The data domain carries the most weight, and it spreads across three different stores. Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL with pgvector and Managed Redis can all hold embeddings and answer a similarity search, so the distractors are rarely wrong products — they are the right idea in the store, index type or setting that does not fit the requirement. Revise what each index trades away (recall, build time, memory) rather than only how to create it.
Expect to read code. A large share of the questions show a short Python snippet, a SQL statement, a KQL query or a YAML manifest and ask which line completes it or what it returns. If you have never run the SDKs, these are the marks you lose; an afternoon working through the official quickstarts usually fixes more of them than another pass through the notes.
Messaging questions hinge on delivery guarantees. Service Bus or Event Grid, a queue or a topic, peek-lock or receive-and-delete, a retry or the dead-letter queue — the scenario usually names a requirement such as processing each message once or reacting to an event within seconds, and that requirement decides the answer. Read it before the options.
Requirement phrases are hard constraints. Without storing credentials in code, least privilege, scale to zero, minimize development effort — Microsoft writes them into the stem because they rule out options that would otherwise work. A miss is often a working design that ignores one of them, so check the stem again when you review.
