What's in a MLA-C02 mock paper
Each paper draws its questions per domain in the same proportions AWS publishes for the real MLA-C02 — so a mock that goes badly in one domain is telling you something a randomly-drawn quiz couldn't.
| Domain | Official weight | Questions drawn | Share of paper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Data Preparation for ML and AI | 28% | 18 | 28% |
| ML Model and Foundation Model (FM) Development | 24% | 16 | 25% |
| Deployment and Orchestration of ML and AI Workflows | 24% | 16 | 25% |
| Operating, Monitoring, and Securing ML and AI Solutions | 24% | 15 | 23% |
| Total | 100% | 65 | 100% |
What a MLA-C02 paper is shaped like
Which way this particular paper applies pressure.
The clock
At roughly 2 minutes a question, the clock is not the enemy here — the scenarios are. Questions on this paper tend to be longer and more layered, and the time is given to you because you need to read carefully. The failure mode is the opposite of a fast paper: drifting, re-reading, and second-guessing answers you had right the first time.
The weighting
Data Preparation for ML and AI is the largest domain at 28%, but with 4 domains in play no single one decides the result. A mock score here is usually a fair reflection of overall coverage rather than a verdict on one topic.
The standard
The pass mark is 720 on the 100–1000 scale. Because scaling adjusts for the difficulty of the particular set you were served, there is no fixed number of questions that guarantees it — which is exactly why a single mock result means less than a consistent one.

What trips people up on an MLA-C02 mock
MLA-C02 is not the MLA-C01 exam with a few extra questions. The update spread foundation models, Retrieval Augmented Generation, agents and Amazon Bedrock through every domain, so practice material written for the earlier version leaves whole skill areas untested. If a mock exposes gaps in knowledge bases, embeddings, prompt management or agent monitoring, that is the new syllabus showing, not bad luck.
Many questions turn on the same decision in different forms: a SageMaker AI model you train and host yourself, or a foundation model you call and customise through Amazon Bedrock. Wrong answers are usually workable options that violate one stated constraint — latency, cost, data residency, how much operational effort the team can absorb — so read the scenario for the constraint before reading the options.
Data preparation is the largest domain and the most concrete. It rewards knowing which tool fits which job — Glue, DataBrew, Data Wrangler, Feature Store, streaming services — and which data formats and storage choices suit a given access pattern. It is also where a strong result can hide weak deployment or operations scores on a mock.
Deployment and operations questions are configuration questions: endpoint types and inference modes, auto scaling metrics, VPC placement, CI/CD with model versioning, and what to monitor once a model or agent is live. They are less about concepts than about knowing what each setting does, so they repay hands-on study more predictably than reading does.
Security is a full domain here, not a footnote: least-privilege access to ML artifacts, network isolation, credential choices for foundation models and Bedrock Guardrails all appear as scenario questions. Before booking, check your mock profile domain by domain rather than trusting the overall score.
