What's in a AIF-C01 mock paper
Each paper draws its questions per domain in the same proportions AWS publishes for the real AIF-C01 — so a mock that goes badly in one domain is telling you something a randomly-drawn quiz couldn't.
| Domain | Official weight | Questions drawn | Share of paper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fundamentals of AI and ML | 20% | 13 | 20% |
| Fundamentals of GenAI | 24% | 16 | 25% |
| Applications of Foundation Models | 28% | 18 | 28% |
| Guidelines for Responsible AI | 14% | 9 | 14% |
| Security, Compliance, and Governance for AI Solutions | 14% | 9 | 14% |
| Total | 100% | 65 | 100% |
What a AIF-C01 paper is shaped like
Which way this particular paper applies pressure.
The clock
At roughly 1.4 minutes a question, the pacing is comfortable but not generous. You can afford to think on a hard question, and you cannot afford to do it twice. Most candidates finish with time for a second pass if they keep the first pass moving.
The weighting
Applications of Foundation Models is the largest domain at 28%, but with 5 domains in play no single one decides the result. A mock score here is usually a fair reflection of overall coverage rather than a verdict on one topic.
The standard
The pass mark is 700 on the 100–1000 scale. Because scaling adjusts for the difficulty of the particular set you were served, there is no fixed number of questions that guarantees it — which is exactly why a single mock result means less than a consistent one.

What trips people up on an AIF-C01 mock
The clock here is noticeably faster than on the associate papers, and the questions are shorter to match — which catches people who have prepared by reading long-form material and expect long-form scenarios. The pace is closer to a foundational exam than a technical one, so rehearsing under the real clock matters more than the total question count suggests.
Responsible AI, security and governance are separately scored domains, not soft filler around the technical content. They carry real weight, the material is finite and well-defined, and it is routinely under-studied because it reads as common sense. On a mock, these are usually the cheapest marks available.
Foundation-model questions test whether you can pick the right technique for a stated goal — grounding, retrieval, fine-tuning, prompt design — rather than whether you can implement any of them. Misses here are almost always about not having a crisp one-line definition of each technique and what it costs.
The two fundamentals domains read as the easy part and are where confident candidates lose the most. The questions are short and definitional, which removes the scenario cues you can reason from elsewhere on the paper: either the term is precisely understood or it is not. Reviewing misses here is fast, and it is usually the single biggest score movement available.
Because this exam is newer than the long-established foundational papers, resist calibrating against what you have heard about other exams. Use your own per-domain trend across a few mocks as the readiness signal, and look specifically for the domain that never improves rather than the lowest score on any one attempt.
